Among the loves I've had you were one of two who didn't have a "title."
I made this when you were two. I was in fifth grade then and I had absolutely no idea that we would meet or you would mean this much to me, or that I would miss you this badly, months after.
All that was important to me at the time was that this new well of opportunity had opened up. That, and that I was going to be a painter. Not the kind that got recognized years after they've been dead-- no matter how you cut it, you could never spend your money in any humanly meaningful way after you kicked the bucket.
This was where I picked up the habit of signing my works before they were finished. I didn't like my signature back then-- a clunky black line whose thickness was an offense to taste.
I was learning so much. And the bonus was that people were actually buying my paintings.
In my life I've only felt this way a few times. The most recent times were, of course, with you.
I don't know what'll happen to me this year-- almost 24 years after I finished painting the thing.
I hope that this year is kinder to you. And that all of us find what we're looking for and have no cause at all to regret them.
I love you, for whatever that's worth.

Oil on Canvas, Summer of 1985. An exercise in color theory and in execution. This was copied from one of my teacher's many instructional materials. This piece hangs in the dining room of my grand aunt in Alabang Hills Village. I hope to restore it one day soon.
I was young then. I was still flexing my artist muscles, plus I had a good teacher. Now I'm nearly decrepit and I've almost forgotten what was taught to me. Kainis.
At least I'm deep into my quest to relearn and discover.

This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between ~Lareth and =FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends *Iardacil and =Sylwiaa , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. As of recent, the talented =Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter and we are excited to have her on board. This is a special feature, with a selection of 50 manips from the past year that we loved.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
